DASH Diet

Dash Diet

The DASH Diet is much more than a weight loss program. In fact, it is considered by many to be a heart-healthy diet that can help to lower blood pressure. This is worth knowing, because if you have been diagnosed with hypertension, that is, high blood pressure, then the odds are that your doctor has told you that you need to make some lifestyle changes to correct the issue, even if you’ve been given prescription medications to help to control or reduce the problem.

Top among the recommended efforts beyond exercising, is to make sure that your weight is in a healthy range, and to toss the salt shaker, for good. This is where the DASH diet can be particularly beneficial as this diet emphasizes eating a variety of foods and nutrients at the right portion sizes.

The DASH Diet Encourages Healthy Eating to Naturally Lower Blood Pressure

With the help of the DASH diet you can take action to reduce your own blood pressure. For some who follow this diet it is possible to reduce it to the point that they no longer need their medication anymore. Of course, if this should ever occur, it is imperative that you speak with your doctor before going off any medication that you may have been prescribed. Additionally, this diet can also be followed to help people to avoid developing high blood pressure problems in the first place.

Essentially, the DASH diet is designed to show you how to reduce your sodium levels while eating healthy, nutritious, flavorful food, and exercising in a fitness appropriate way to bring your blood pressure levels back under control.

How the Program Works

The DASH diet stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, but it can also help you to prevent heart disease, osteoporosis, and even some cancers.

The premise of the program includes the following:

  • Eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low fat dairy
  • Eating poultry, fish, and legumes
  • Eating only limited amounts of sweets, fats, and red meats – though they are still allowed
  • Reducing cholesterol, saturated fat, and total fat intake
  • Increasing fiber intake, as well as nutrients such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium
  • Reducing sodium

When followed properly, hunger shouldn’t be a problem for most people. The reason is that the standard DASH Diet gives a follower 2,000 calories every day. When that is made up of fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean protein, you can eat a tremendous amount of food within that calorie limit. For those who want to lose weight, a reduced calorie version is also available.

The diet provides a large number of different types of advice and recommendations to make it easier to follow. This includes:

  • Choosing “no salt added” or reduced sodium foods
  • Purchasing fresh or frozen vegetables, or canned options with “no salt added”
  • Selecting fresh fish, poultry, and lean meat instead of processed, smoked, and canned varieties.
  • Limiting the consumption of picked and cured foods
  • Limiting the use of condiments that are high in salt such as soy sauce, ketchup, horseradish, barbecue sauce, teriyaki sauce, and mustard.
  • Cook pasta, rice, and hot cereals without salting the water.

An Adipex Alternative May Also Assist with Weight Loss

Some who follow the DASH diet for weight loss reasons also find that when they take an Adipex alternative diet pill in combination with this program, that it can help support their efforts to manage their weight. This includes reducing struggles that are sometimes experienced when trying to remain committed to a diet or finding the extra energy required to power through the day and workouts.

Just remember, before following the DASH diet or taking a diet pill, it is always a good idea to first consult with your healthcare provider to make sure you’re doing what is safest and best for your specific health and lifestyle needs as well as weight management goals.

The Meal Measure

The Meal Measure review

The Meal Measure is a health and weight loss product that is meant to help people to learn proper portion control so that they can increase the odds that they are consuming the right quantities of the various food groups.

It is a tool that was designed to follow the food portion guidelines of the USDA’s “MyPyramid,” which replaced the 1992 “Food Guide Pyramid” in 2005. That said, it should be noted that since 2011, the USDA replaced “MyPyramid” with “MyPlate.”

The Meal Measure is a Handy Tool

This item is a product from a company called Ezy Dose, which is a brand of Apothecary Products. The Meal Measure is a round plastic tool that has been designed to sit on a plate. It has four compartments that are labeled for a different food group:

  • Protein
  • Starch
  • Vegetables or Fruit

There is one compartment for protein, one for starch and two for fruits and/or vegetables. Each of the compartments is one cup in size, but they also include a half cup line that is marked inside. As for the protein portion, it is approximately the size of a deck of cards.

The Meal Measure is meant to help dieters to be able to better portion out their meals to encourage faster and easier weight loss by eating the right amount of the various food groups, and to help to promote better nutrition by encouraging variety and appropriate quantities of the different foods necessary to stay healthy.

The MyPlate Guidelines

The USDA created MyPlate (formerly MyPyramid) as a reminder for Americans to find their healthy eating style and build it throughout their lifetime. What a person drinks and eats matters and the right mix of foods and beverages can help an individual be healthier in the present and in the future.

MyPlate is a more simplified version of MyPyramid. For the MyPlay icon, the USDA chose a plate to help grab the attention of consumers with a visual cue that serves as a reminder for healthy eating that is not intended to provide a specific message.

What makes the MyPlate plate image different from the Meal Measure tool is that the MyPlate image is divided into five sections:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Grains
  • Protein
  • Dairy

Grains and vegetables have the largest portions, with dairy being the smallest in size.

Convenient and Ideal for Most Meals

The Meal Measure is a practical product can be used for most meals and is dishwasher safe on the top rack. It is sold at a number of different websites and online marketplaces and is available in different colors, including blue and red.

On Amazon, the Meal Measure is advertised at being $9.34. As it does not need to remain on the plate when the meal is actually served, and is merely designed for proper portioning when the plate is being served, it can be used for multiple plates, so there is no need to purchase several when there will be more than one person eating and dieting together. This helps to make it not only practical but affordable.

Additionally, many people who have used it seem to like it. There have been dozens of customer reviews submitted online. Many of them found that the Meal Measure is a very helpful tool. They found that it was very easy to use, is clean and functioned very effectively as a method of gaining a better understanding of how large their portions should actually be.

Many people also pointed out that this was a much more practical way to portion food than using a plate that had dividers, as it was easier for them to be able to properly portion their servings without having to use different plates than everyone else. That fact was especially important at holidays and dinner parties.

An Oldie but a Goodie

Even though the Meal Measure is based on the older USDA MyPyramid Food Guidance System, all in all, it is still a valuable weight loss tool that provides a visual understanding of how much a person typically overeats in one area and doesn’t consume enough of other areas. This can be key in guiding an individual toward eating the right amounts of food and, therefore, naturally managing their weight and nutrition.

Gillian McKeith’s Food Bible

Gillian McKeith’s Food Bible book review

Gillian McKeith’s Food Bible is a book that was written by clinical nutritionist and television celebrity, Gillian McKeith. It is meant to be used as a food reference. Gillian McKeith is the host of several BBC television shows. Among them, the largest and most famous has been “You Are What You Eat,” in which she assists obese individuals in identifying the foods and eating behaviors that are causing them to gain massive amounts of weight, and then guides them with healthier options. McKeith also wrote the 2-million copy internationally bestseller “You Are What You Eat.”

Eating the Right Foods Can Help

The full name of the book is “Gillian McKeith’s Food Bible: How to Use Food to Cure What Ails You.” It is meant to help people to use the right foods to prevent and treat a range of different health struggles. It provides information and recommendations for more than 100 different common ailments, from migraines to yeast infections and asthma.

Many people forget about the healing powers of foods and the nutrients that they contain, but this book has been designed to provide people with a new way of looking at the foods that they eat. Although it does acknowledge that this does not replace a doctor’s care and that there will be times that medications will be required, it also reminds people that their eating habits can offer them some ways to prevent illnesses from happening in the first place, or at least to treat them in a drug-free way so that they don’t need to be as dependent on pills.

For instance, some of the food based treatments mentioned in this book include:

  • Wild yams help promote fertility
  • Almonds can assist with weight loss
  • Tomatoes contain antioxidants that can help prevent cancer
  • Oil and collagen production can be stimulated by eating foods like berries, spinach, broccoli and romaine lettuce

This Book May Not Be for Everyone

Among the strengths of this book are that the author is very qualified as a nutrition and medical specialist. Many people are looking for ways to treat minor ailments in natural ways without having to rely on medications each time. This resource is also a positive one in that it encourages people to eat healthier foods and to increase the amount of fresh foods that they consume. At the same time, it also promotes the reduction of the consumption of processed foods.

On the other hand it is also important to note that the suggestions made in Gillian McKeith’s Food Bible may not work for every medical condition and every person. The sheer number of conditions that are addressed in this book mean that there will be solutions that will work for some but not for others. This is because there is no single cookie cutter solution for everyone when it comes to medical conditions.

If you are considering following the advice in this book, it would be best to first consult with your doctor.

April 2020 Update

Gillian McKeith’s Food Bible that was reviewed above is no longer in print and is currently unavailable for purchase. This isn’t surprising as the book is several years old and Gillian McKeith is no stranger to controversy having been called out over the years for adding the term “Dr” to her advertisements and for even being branded as a “fake” for carrying out the role of being a therapist on Celebrity Big Brother, in spite of not being qualified as one.

Back in 2007, the “You Are What You Eat” TV presenter agreed to drop the title of “Dr” from her company’s advertising after complaints were sent to the UK industry watchdog. Although she has made millions from her books and television series, her credentials have been questioned by some experts.

After careful consideration, the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) decided that using the term “Dr” was likely to mislead the public, so McKeith decided to drop it from advertising. The reason this controversy occurred was McKeith had claimed that she was entitled to call herself a doctor due to her distance learning PhD in holistic nutrition that she had received from the American Holistic College of Nutrition.

However, this college was not accredited by any recognized educational authority at the time that she took the course, which means that McKeith does not hold a general medical qualification. Therefore, for all intents and purposes, she’s not a “Dr” as she claims.

The reason why this is important to note is that McKeith has other books that you can still purchase beyond the Gillian McKeith’s Food Bible. Although she does offer good advice that may be beneficial to some individuals seeking to lose weight, it is essential to keep in mind that she is a celebrity first and not a doctor. Her opinions and advice should not be placed above the advice of your own healthcare provider.

Dorm Room Diet

Dorm Room Diet review

The Dorm Room Diet is a program that was created to help to counteract the impact of the dreaded “freshman 15”, in which a freshman is likely to gain about fifteen pounds during that first year of college. This is typically the result of eating high fat and sugary foods (which are often served at college cafeterias), large portions, regularly drinking bear, from maintaining poor sleeping patterns, and from failing to exercise adequately.

That said, Daphne Oz, the author of the Dorm Room Diet’s guidebook decided to create a product that would help to change that pattern in the first year of college, and to help those who have already gained those 15 pounds to be able to work them back off again.

A Diet Program For College Students

This book is geared specifically toward college students and is to be used as a guide to provide them with the information that they need to alter the way that they eat when they are living in dorm rooms so that they will be able to change their eating patterns and avoid consuming only large quantities of high fat foods. This is meant to assist them in being able to keep away from the freshman 15 and to be able to remain healthy throughout the college years.

Daphne Oz is the daughter of the very famous Mehmet Oz (aka Dr. Oz), who first found his fame on the Oprah Winfrey Show and then moved on to his own television and online empire. He is also a famous diet author and now it seems that his daughter has followed in his footsteps. In fact, Dr. Oz has written the forward in the book, expressing his complete support for his daughter and what she has assembled in her Dorm Room Diet book.

That said, it should also be noted that while it once may have been ideal to have your celebrity doctor father write a forward to your book, years later after this book was published, Dr. Oz would be called out for diet scams and his “miracle” weight loss claims for which he had to publicly face a senate committee hearing. Over the years, in spite of maintaining his popularity and TV show, Dr. Oz has built up quite the reputation for making bogus medical claims.

Stay Healthy and Track Diet and Exercise

The Dorm Room Diet is actually made up of two books that are a set.

  • “The Dorm Room Diet: The 8-Step Program for Creating a Healthy Lifestyle Plan That Really Works” – This first book explains the program itself and provides the information that college students need to help them to stay healthy while they are living on campus.
  • “The Dorm Room Diet Planner” – This second book is a type of workbook in the form of a planner. It gives the user the ability to track his or her food intake and daily exercise, as well as to keep goals and take note of aspirations and overall thoughts.

That said, in 2010, a revised and updated edition of Oz’ original national bestseller (launched in 2006) was released: “The Doom Room Diet: The 10-Step Program for Creating a Healthy Lifestyle Plan That Really Works.”

In the updated version, Oz expands on her original program by providing additional helpful information and support, such as:

  • Stop emotional eating
  • Get the exercise you need, even if its in your dorm room
  • Select supplements and vitamins wisely
  • Recognize the most common danger zones for unhealthy eating (e.g. late-night studying, parties, eating on the run, sporting events, etc.)

Dorm Room Diet Update

As of March 2020, when this Dorm Room Diet review was updated, the revised version of the book remained quite affordable. It could be purchased for $9.53 on Kindle at Amazon. However, there were no paperback versions available that shipped directly from Amazon, which suggests that the book is out of print.

As for the original Dorm Room Diet book and planner, both can still be purchased from third-party Amazon sellers, but are also likely out of print.

While this diet plan still remains very inexpensive for anyone who would like to try it and it has received generally positive reviews, the information provided in it is over a decade old. It’s safe to say that the popularity of this once national bestseller has dwindled.

Lastly, if you not a freshman in college staying on campus, the Dorm Room Diet isn’t likely to be helpful.

Dr Tabor’s Slim And Beautiful

Dr Tabor’s Slim And Beautiful review

Dr. Tabor’s Slim and Beautiful diet was developed by a medical doctor named Dr. Aaron Tabor. The program has a complete website that provides everything from testimonials from other satisfied customers to video instructions that were created by Dr. Tabor, himself.

There are a number of different food plans and diet plans that all fall under the same program so that an individual’s personal taste can be taken into account. This way, the program is designed to make sure that a dieter’s needs are filled and so he or she will be less likely to “cheat”. For example, a dieter with a sweet tooth will be able to choose from among a number of different dessert style foods that are provided right on the front page for each of the different programs.

Dr. Tabor’s Slim and Beautiful Program

Each of the diets in the Dr. Tabor’s Slim and Beautiful program provide the participant with three meals per day and snacks. The meals, however, are not necessarily the normal type of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Instead, they are replaced by protein shakes, protein bars, as well as more traditional types of entrees as well as bags of snacks.

The purpose of the diet, therefore, isn’t to teach the dieter how to prepare his or her own healthy, weight friendly foods, but is instead to encourage this individual to purchase his or her food from the program.

Here’s a closer look at how the program works:

  • For every month that the dieter subscribes, one week’s worth of food is included in the membership
  • The other three weeks of food must be purchased separately.
  • A month’s membership also comes with Dr. Tabor’s diet book, free diet counseling, and the ability to participate in the online community.
  • If the dieter registers for the program’s auto ship program, additional discounts are applied.

The foods selected for this program are based on a high protein and low-fat concept. The idea of raising the protein is meant to help to combat hunger. There may be some truth to this as studies have found that inadequate intake of protein can increase hunger and the desire to eat.

No Research Cited to Backup the Efficacy of the Program

It is important to note that while the creator is a doctor, the website does not cite any research or clinical studies that would suggest that there is any scientific evidence to back up the claims about this diet.

Moreover, this is not a cheap diet. At an average cost of $14.75 per day for a month’s supply of food, this is considerably more expensive than it would be to learn to make diet friendly meals at home. Even on the auto ship program the average cost is just over $11 per day. This would make the program cost prohibitive for many dieters, and unappealing to others who would rather pay that kind of money to a program that has clinical trials to back up its claims.

Additionally, remember that simply because a diet program was created by a doctor, this does not mean that it is safe or effective for you. Ultimately, the creator of any product that is intended for sale is seeking to make money. For this reason, it is very much in your best interest to consult with your personal healthcare provider before partaking in the Dr. Tabor’s Slim and Beautiful program. In other words, do not blindly take Dr. Tabor’s word that this diet is a good one.

Update March 2020

Dr. Tabor’s Slim and Beautiful was popular when it first came out in 2007. However, over the years it dwindled in popularity to the point that the program now no longer appears to exist. The program’s website is gone, and the products (shakes, etc.) required to take part in the diet are not available for purchase.

Now all that appears to remain of this program is a $3.99 hardcover version of the book “The Revival Slim and Beautiful Diet: How An Incredible Little Bean Can Help You: Lose Weight, Increase Energy, Lower Cholesterol, and So Much More,” which can be bought on Amazon.

Co-authored by Tabor and his mother, the book is supposedly based on “ground-breaking research” and shares the health benefits of soy and other life-enhancing beliefs, thoughts, activities and health practices that are easy to implement.

However, the rating for this book is very low, with readers complaining that the book is nothing more than an infomercial and that it does not contain any useful or ground-breaking information.

Ultimately, it seems safe to say that Dr. Tabor’s Slim and Beautiful has had its five minutes of fame.

Weight Loss Village Diet

Weight Loss Village Diet review

The Weight Loss Village Diet is an online program that is run through a website – also known as an ediet.

This diet program is geared toward providing dieters with all of the various elements that they need in order to ensure that they will be able to reach their weight loss goals. The primary focus of this diet is on:

  • Eating right
  • Exercising properly
  • Changing thought patterns
  • Developing appropriate healthy lifestyle habits

Multiple Diet Plans Allow for Flexibility

In total, there are 46 different meal plans available through the Weight Loss Village Diet. Each of them were, according to the official website, developed by dieticians, making it possible for the dieter to be able to choose the one that they feel will be best for their needs, lifestyle, and expectations for weight loss.

Among the more popular choices are the:

  • Mediterranean
  • Low carbohydrate
  • Energy Booster
  • Cancer Prevention
  • Teen
  • Detoxification and Cleansing
  • Lactose Free
  • Gluten Free
  • Diabetes

Every one of these meal plans has been made so that they can be customized by the dieter in order to work the foods that they love into their meals while eliminating the foods that they don’t like.

The Weight Loss Village Diet is Followed in Three Phases

The meal plans can be used in any way that the dieter wants, but the diet as a whole must be followed in its three different phases. These phase include:

  1. Detox phase – This can last anywhere from two to three weeks.
  2. Meal plan selection phase – The next phase occurs when the meal plan for reaching the weight loss goal is selected.
  3. Maintenance Phase – The last phase is maintenance once the weight has been lost, in the effort not to let it come back again.

Plenty of Tools Help to Keep Dieters on Track

There are many tools on the Weight Loss Village Diet website, ranging from trackers for the number of calories burned, to recommended exercises. This is helpful for many people because it means that they can keep up with the active part of the program without needing a gym membership.

This Diet May Be Too Costly for Some

If you’re looking for a weight loss program that is budget-friendly, this might not be the best choice. Considering the cost of the Weight Loss Village Diet, it is highly beneficial that a gym membership is not required. At $7.50 per week, billed at a rate of 13 weeks at a time, this can be very costly for an ediet, particularly when the lump sum has to be faced.

That being said, prior to having to pay for the plan, you can get a good idea of what it’s all about before having to pay a dime. The website provides plenty of information. Additionally, when this Weight Loss Village Diet review was written, you could create a profile and sign up for free, which also included a free copy of a free smoothies recipe eBook. Additionally, there is a money-back guarantee.

For someone who can afford it, this program can offer a good amount of flexibility and options, with a nod toward a long term healthy lifestyle to stop future weight gain from occurring.

Of course, the Weight Loss Village Diet may not be for everyone. Moreover, simply because there are diet plans created by a dietitian, this does not meant that diet plans are safe for all. If you have a medical condition and/or feel that losing weight would be beneficial to your health and wellbeing, it never hurts to consult your healthcare provider to see what options or suggestions he or she may recommend.

Get With the Program

Get with the Program

Get With the Program: Getting Real About Your Health, Weight and Emotional Well-Being is a weight loss book that was authored by Bob Greene, who is an exercise physiologist and certified personal trainer. Green specializes in weight loss, fitness and metabolism.

His book is designed to be a guide not only for shedding excess pounds, but also for getting in shape, managing emotions and implementing other elements of a healthy lifestyle. The main goal is to help readers lose weight, get fit and live a happier, healthier and more satisfying life.

A Four-part, Step-by-step Program

Throughout the book, Greene details four different phases that include what is needed to achieve weight loss and healthy living. The step-by-step program focuses on:

  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Lifestyle change
  • Behavior modification

More specifically, each of the four phases in Get With the Program include:

  1. Self-examination – The first phase is the time in which the dieter looks at his or her own current lifestyle and identifies the elements that need to be changed.
  1. Exercise – The second phase starts the workout efforts and starts the alterations in the reader’s diet.
  1. Emotional well-being – The third phase concentrates on the reader’s emotional state in order to overcome issues such as depression or emotional stress that are causing people to eat more for comfort or to avoid exercise.
  1. Strength training – The fourth phase is the strength training and dietary changes portion of the book.

The way this book is written it has been designed to seem like you have a personal coach working with you on behavioral and emotional changes along with diet and exercise. According to Greene, if you’ve struggled with weight loss, you need to understand your attitude and challenges before any exercise or diet program will work to your benefit.

Greene is a Long-time Friend of Oprah

The claim to fame of Bob Greene is that he is the personal trainer of Oprah Winfrey. He has been training her for several years, but has also published a number of books. Among them, Get With the Program is seen as one of his best of them.

Particular applause has been given to the division of the phases that readers are finding helpful for getting in shape and for losing weight.

Moreover, Greene is known as a very credible author and Get With the Program has received a very long list of highly positive customer reviews from the people who have purchased and used it.

Get With the Program Is Easy to Find and Cheap to Purchase

This weight loss book is readily available in large bookstore chains as well as online, with prices varying for new and used copies, anywhere from $11.00 or cheaper to $25.00. It all depends on where you purchase it.

It can also be found in many libraries and is available in a variety of formats including paperback, hardcover, eBook and audio. Moreover, due to its many available formats and because it was released in 2002, this makes the book easy to find and affordable to purchase.

At the same time, what’s interesting is that neither the author nor the book appeared to have an official website at the time that this Get With the Program book review was created. This is surprising as Green is the bestselling author of several books in the same series including: The Get With the Program! Guide to Good Eating, The Get With the Program! Guide to Fast Food and Family Restaurants, and The Get With the Program! Daily Journal.

Make Sure that This is the Right Program for You

While the Get With The Program guide does appear to be a very positive and well laid out program that focuses on several aspects of losing weight beyond diet and exercise, do keep in mind that it’s still a good idea to speak with your healthcare provider before making what Greene suggests a regular part of your everyday lifestyle. After all, even the advice of Oprah’s personal trainer shouldn’t replace the advice of your own medical practitioner.

Love Me Slender: How Smart Couples Team Up to Lose Weight, Exercise More, and Stay Healthy Together

Love Me Slender How Smart Couples Team Up to Lose Weight Exercise More and Stay Healthy TogetherLove Me Slender: How Smart Couples Team Up to Lose Weight, Exercise More, and Stay Healthy Together is the title of a book designed to help couples to improve their diet and fitness together. This book was written by Thomas N. Bradbury, PhD and Benjamin R. Karney, PhD. It was published based on research conducted with the participation of 1,000 married couples.

The purpose of the book is to show couples how they can strengthen their drive to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight by way of strengthening their relationship. The book offers a new approach to fat loss that makes sure that couples are supporting each other in weight management instead of inadvertently sabotaging each other.

This book addresses the common weight gain phenomenon that often occurs after a couple is married and settles into their relationship. The goal is to be able to overcome this trend by providing support for each other through exercise and nutritious eating habits. By focusing on the relationship as a whole and sharing these health-focused activities, the book says that weight will naturally be lost and without nearly as much challenge as it otherwise would.

Love Me Slender suggests that if your spouse is (deliberately or accidentally) sabotaging weight loss efforts, the best thing to do is to take on better health together. When you’re there for each other in important issues such as this, it will strengthen your ability to lose weight at the same time that it fortifies your relationship.

The book lays out the main principles used by successful couples for improving their health. The reviews for this book on Amazon are primarily quite positive. At the time of the writing of this review, it had achieved a 4.1 star average out of 5 stars, which is very strong. Overall, customers who have reviewed the book appreciated the direct, step by step approach that is supported by research that was clearly described by the authors.

Customers also praised the way the book provided constructive methods and language that couples can apply to their relationships in order to clearly understand each other and express themselves. This understanding is core to being able to work together in order to achieve the common goal while supporting each other in achieving individual goals.

The only criticism for the book that was noted on Amazon at the time of the writing of the book stated only “Literally dumbest book I’ve ever read,” with no further detail. Considering the nature and wording of that review and the lack of statements to support its attempted claim, it is difficult to give it any credence.

Friends with the Scale

Friends with the Scale reviewFriends with the Scale: How to Turn Your Scale Into a Powerful Weight Loss Tool is a book available in both paperback and ebook format. It was written by Linda Spangle. The purpose of the book is to take the dread away from the bathroom scale and allow readers to discover how to use it as a tool for more effective weight loss.

Many studies have shown that the way a dieter uses a bathroom scale can greatly change his or her chances of successfully reaching weight loss goals. This is because the scale can play a large role in a person’s emotional state and motivation. When used effectively, it can encourage someone to keep going. When used improperly, it can become a negative influence on a diet and can drain a person’s motivation to keep going with the effort.

Friends with the Scale has been written to provide dieters with a practical approach to using the scale in order to gain the positive benefits while avoiding the drawbacks. The content of the book is a combination of personal stories as well as a smattering of scientific information.

The main topics covered by the book include avoiding the dread from stepping on a bathroom scale, knowing when you should absolutely not use a scale, understanding and managing the doctor’s office scale, the various factors that can change the numbers you see on the scale and how to overcome the inclination to feel like a failure when you see your weight rise on a scale.

The book is written in a way that allows a reader to follow a step-by-step plan to alter his or her weight-in rituals so they become an inspiring and motivational time instead of one that is dreaded and that leaves an emotional beating behind. As such, it isn’t about dieting as much as how to use this specific tool as a part of a broader weight management strategy.

While the book isn’t endorsed by any doctors it has received exceptionally positive reviews on Amazon, where it is sold. At the time of the writing of this review, Friends with the scale had received 74 ratings on Amazon and 89 percent of them were 5-stars. The remaining 11 percent were 4 stars with nothing lower than that. A 4.9 percent average rating on Amazon is a very strong one for a dieting guide, particularly one focused nearly exclusively on a single motivational tool.

Park Avenue Diet

Park Avenue Diet reviewThe Park Avenue Diet is a type of weight loss plan that uses a very low number of calories over a short period of time in order to try to drop the pounds very quickly. This strategy was developed by Dr. Stuart Fischer.

It was created in order to help a dieter to be able to get started on a new lifestyle that will help them to look and feel better. As a part of this diet and then the lifestyle that is adopted afterward, Dr. Fischer recommends a focus on diet and fitness, but also beauty and fashion.

The complete Park Avenue Diet strategy lasts for six weeks and is broken down into three stages. The three stages are:

• “Inviting Success” – This phase lasts for the first two weeks and focuses on self discovery. Here, dieters are given the basics of the program that involve developing a better understanding of the seven areas of image reinvention, and then gradually adding them into their daily routine.
• “Preparing for Greatness” – This phase lasts for the length of the third week. Here, dieters must keep up with their newly developed diet and continue to practice their new skills, developing them into habits.
• “Making the A-List” – This phase continues for the last three weeks, throughout which the diet is continued as it was, and exercise levels are boosted.

Though that outline makes it seem quite simple and achievable, the truth about the Park Avenue Diet is that it is exceptionally restrictive. Each day, three meals are allowed, as well as a snack and a dessert. The dieter must drink a large amount of water in order to ensure proper hydration. While there are a typical number of eating periods, calories need to be kept between 1,200 and 1,500 per day.

Dieters need to keep their portion sizes inside of controlled limits, and their foods are made up mainly of vegetables, fruits, brown rice, lean proteins, pastas, and select dairy products. All artificial sweeteners, fruit juice, milk, alcohol, sugar, and other sweets are required to be eliminated.

There are exercise recommendations provided throughout the length of the Park Avenue Diet. The intensity of the required workouts builds over time. According to information about the diet, the average participant loses between one and two pounds per week. This is a healthy amount of weight loss, but it is also the amount that many people will lose with less restrictive strategies.
