The Mayo Clinic Diet is an eating and active lifestyle strategy that was created by the Mayo Clinic, in order to help people to be able to achieve their healthy body weights and to be able to maintain that weight. This is considered to be a lifestyle diet and not just one that will be followed as long as the pounds need to come off.
The primary focus of the Mayo Clinic Diet is to show the dieter how to live in a way that is more healthful, overall, so that the pounds will come off naturally and will then remain gone. Through this diet, an individual will learn how to eat in a realistic way that involves tasty, nutritious foods in appropriate portions, and how to prepare them in a way that will be flavorful and satisfying, without sacrificing wellness in doing so.
At the same time, this diet also promotes increased activity at a fitness appropriate level in order to not only maintain a proper body weight, but also to improve the immune system and emotional health and reduce the risks that are associated with being too heavy, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer.
The Mayo Clinic created this dieting strategy based on its research and clinical experience and packaged it in a book that can be used by a dieter as a guide to discover and implement the various changes that are needed to his or her lifestyle.
There are two main components of this diet. The first is called “Lose it”, which presents 15 different habits that should be either adopted or eliminated. It allows as much snacking as you want as long as it involves fruits and vegetables, and it does not require calorie counting. That part of the diet runs for two weeks.
After two weeks, the second component of the diet kicks in. That is called “Live it” and it focuses on building an understanding of calories. It teaches how many calories must be eaten in order to be able to shed excess weight as well as how many can be consumed in order to maintain it. It also points out the perfect kinds of foods that can be eaten for receiving beneficial and nutritious calories on a daily basis.
This diet is focused more on understanding food and healthy habits than it is about actually restricting yourself in order to burn away fat. It concentrates on educating people so that they can make smart choices for better health, appearance, and longevity.
